Baobab Studios, the developers behind Fire, Asteroids! and more, revealed that his next project is an immersive experience called “Baba Yaga”. The Annecy 2020 International Animation Festival online will unveil a first look in a few weeks.
Baba Yaga’s co-directors are Eric Darnell, co-founder of baobab and French director Mathias Chelebourg. The experience will be “a contemporary representation of the legend of Eastern Europe inspired by 2D pop-up animation styles, drawn by hand and in stop-motion”.
Some details of Baba Yaga’s account can be found on the Baobab Studios website:
It is up to you and your sister Magda to save your mother by entering the forest to obtain the healing of the enigmatic witch Baba Yaga. Your choices define how this story of love and magic ends.
Due to the current global COVID-19 pandemic, Annecy is one of many festivals and events to go online this year. Accredited festival viewers will be able to watch a presentation of “Work In Progress” on Baba Yaga, which will be available for the entire two-week event starting June 15. Pacific on June 23.
UploadVR are big fans of Baobab’s latest offering, Bonfire, which starred comedian Ali Wong and premiered at Tribeca Film Festival 2019. As Jamie noted in his review of Bonfire, Baobab learned a lot from each of its productions, improving more and more each time. We can’t wait to see what they have in store next.
Baobab Studios says Baba Yaga will premiere this year in “several formats”.
