Destiny 2: Beyond Light begins a new era for the MMO shooter September 22

Bungie charted the future of Destiny 2 today, revealing Beyond Light. It comes out on September 22. The expansion has players going to Europe, the frozen moon of Jupiter.

Destiny 2 was released in 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Initially Activision released the online multiplayer shooter, but Bungie took over in 2019. Bungie updates Destiny 2 with seasonal content available through an annual pass as well as larger extensions. The last big expansion, Shadowkeep, was released in October 2019. The game was also released for Stadia in 2019.

As the name suggests, players will use powers inspired by the dark. It’s called stasis, and it’s a new fourth type of elemental damage that has an ice-based aesthetic. It is the first time that the series has received a new type of damage.

Bungie has also revealed two other extensions for the future. The Witch Queen arrives in 2021, and Lightfall will follow in 2022. Bungie also noted that he was working on his seasonal pass approach, hoping to reduce the feeling of FOMO (fear of running out).

The developers have also noted that Destiny 2 will run at 60 FPS on next generation consoles. And if you have Destiny 2 on PS4, you will get it and all the extensions that you have for free on PlayStation 5. The same goes for Xbox One and Xbox Series X. Destiny 2 will also support intergenerational play, it i.e. PS4 and PS5. (or Xbox One and Xbox Series X) players can group together. In the future, Bungie hopes that total crossplay will work.

Bungie also noted that the game is getting so big that it becomes difficult to update and support it. The studio does not want to start over and create a suite. Instead, it will start removing old Destiny 2 content each time a new extension is released. Content placed in the vault can return later, including original Destiny items. For example, the location of the first Destiny Cosmodrome, with three strikes, will arrive at Destiny 2 later this year. Beyond 2020, the Vault of Glass raid will appear in Destiny 2.

If all this seems too far away, a new dungeon is coming today.
