Call of Duty: Modern Warfare emerged as the # 2 game in April in the United States, according to market researcher NPD. The game remains the best-selling game both since the start of the year and for the 12-month period ending in April 2020.
According to NPD, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is currently the fourth best-selling version in U.S. history (dollar sales in the first seven months of the market). That means the game is selling at historic levels and has beaten all other game sales, except for three titles in its first seven months on the market.
There is no doubt that the game is helped by a high demand for Call of Duty: Warzone, the free Battle Royale mode which debuted March 11, just when orders for on-site shelters went into effect in the United States. This game mode has been downloaded over 60 million timesand Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick recently said in the recent company earnings conference call that many people trying Warzone were going for the full game at $ 60.
I took advantage of this moment to emphasize that I won a Warzone match, and so far I have played it over 200 times. I suspect that Warzone’s popularity in on-site shelter conditions is helping sales of Modern Warfare.
